Once upon a time in the city of Drona, there lived four friends. Among them, three were knowledgeable in various subjects as Brahmins, while the fourth friend lacked formal education but possessed great intelligence. While the three Brahmin friends were skilled in various fields, they did not always apply their knowledge wisely.
One day, the four friends decided that to earn money, they should travel abroad. They believed that by going abroad, they could benefit from education and also find ways to earn money. As they traveled, one of the Brahmin friends suggested that their friend without any knowledge should not receive a share of the wealth they would earn due to their education. He suggested that the friend should return home.
After much discussion, the second Brahmin friend agreed to this notion. However, the third friend argued that it wouldn’t be right to make such a decision. They had been friends since childhood, and making such a decision now would be wrong. He suggested that whatever they earned should be divided equally among them to uphold their bond of friendship. Encouraged by this reasoning, all the friends decided to move forward together to showcase the miracles of their knowledge to people.
During their journey, while passing through a jungle, they encountered a dead lion. The Brahmin friends proclaimed that they could bring the lion back to life through the miracles of their knowledge. However, the intelligent fourth friend warned them against doing so. He cautioned that if they revived the lion, it would devour all of them as soon as it regained life.
Despite the warnings of the fourth friend, the three Brahmins disregarded his advice. One of them started collecting the bones, another began arranging them, and the third attempted to breathe life into the lion. Witnessing this, the intelligent friend became fearful. He requested them to allow him to climb a tree.
Saying this, the intelligent friend quickly climbed up the tree. Meanwhile, the other three friends, using their knowledge and skills, managed to revive the lion. As soon as the lion came back to life, it attacked and killed the three Brahmins. However, the intelligent friend, who had stayed away from the foolish endeavor, remained safe on the tree.
Lesson from the Story:
The story of “The Revived Lion” teaches us that one should never indulge in any work under the influence of knowledge without considering its consequences. It’s essential to weigh both the positive and negative outcomes of every action, not just rely on one’s education but also apply wisdom while utilizing that knowledge.
