Once upon a time, there was a bird named Sindhu in a city who lived on a large tree, and the astonishing thing about this bird was that its excreta turned into gold. This fact was unknown to anyone. Once, a hunter passed beneath the tree looking for a place to rest. He settled down under the tree for a while. Sindhu, the bird, then dropped its excreta near the hunter. As soon as the excreta fell on the ground, it turned into gold. The hunter was extremely happy to witness this and set a trap to catch the bird.
Sindhu got caught in the hunter’s trap, and the hunter took it to his home. Upon seeing Sindhu caged, the hunter started worrying. He feared that if the king found out, he would not only be asked to present Sindhu at the royal court but also be punished. Worried by these thoughts, the fearful hunter took Sindhu to the king’s court to explain everything.
After hearing the story, the king ordered Sindhu to be kept under careful observation and to be fed properly. Listening to this, a minister advised the king not to believe the foolish hunter’s story. He questioned if it was possible for a bird to excrete gold. Therefore, it would be wise to set Sindhu free.
Listening to the minister, the king ordered to release the bird. As Sindhu was flying away, it dropped a piece of gold at the king’s door. Seeing this, the king ordered his ministers to capture the bird, but by then, Sindhu had already flown away. While flying, Sindhu exclaimed, “I was foolish to drop gold before the hunter. The hunter was foolish to take me to the king, and the king was foolish to heed the minister’s advice. Everyone is foolish in their own way.”
Lesson from the Story:
One should never blindly trust others’ words and should use their own judgment.
