Years ago, in a jungle, a donkey, a fox, and a lion became good friends. One day, they sat together and thought about hunting. After a while, they decided that after hunting, the spoils would be divided equally among them. After making this decision, the three friends set out in search of an animal in the jungle.
A short distance away, the three friends spotted a deer in the jungle. Suddenly, they attempted to pounce on it. Seeing them, the deer started running swiftly. Exhausted from running, the deer stopped for a moment. Seizing the opportunity, the lion hunted the deer.
The donkey, fox, and lion were all very pleased. To divide the spoils of the dead deer into three equal parts, the lion instructed his friend, the donkey. According to the pre-decided plan, the donkey divided the prey into three equal shares. Seeing this, the lion was not at all happy. In anger, he roared loudly and attacked the donkey, tearing it into two parts with his teeth and claws.
The fox observed all this. Then the lion, with a smile, said to the fox, “Come on, now you take your share of the hunt.” The clever and wise fox, with great intelligence, gave three-quarters of the deer’s share to the lion, keeping only one-quarter for itself.
Seeing this, the lion, while laughing, said to the fox, “Wow! You have truly done what was in my mind. Your mind is very sharp.” Saying this, the lion asked the fox, “How are you so intelligent? How do you know what I want? Where did you learn to distribute the share of the hunt so well?”
Responding to the lion’s questions, the fox said, “You are the king of the jungle, and understanding how to distribute the share is not difficult. Along with that, I had already observed the condition of the donkey. Learning from whatever happened with it, I have shown such wisdom.”
Hearing the response, the lion was very pleased and said, “You are truly intelligent.”
Lesson from the story: We should learn not only from our mistakes but also from the mistakes of others. This way, we can avoid making the same mistake and its negative consequences.
