Once upon a time, in a village, there lived a greedy dog. He roamed around the village in search of food. His greed was so intense that whatever food he found, it seemed insufficient for him.
Initially, he had good relations with other dogs in the village, but due to his greedy behavior, they started to distance themselves. However, the greedy dog paid no attention, caring only about his own meals. Whenever someone offered him something to eat, he would devour it alone without sharing.
One day, he found a bone somewhere. Upon seeing the bone, his happiness knew no bounds. He thought that the pleasure of having it all to himself would be unparalleled. With this thought, he decided to go to the jungle away from the village.
On his way, he crossed a bridge over a river. As he was passing over the bridge, he noticed his reflection in the still water below. At that moment, he was so consumed by the greed for the bone that he failed to realize his own reflection in the water.
Thinking there was another dog below with another bone, he thought, “Why not take that bone too? Then I would have two bones to enjoy at once!” With this idea in mind, he jumped into the river, expecting to seize the bone from his own reflection.
As he jumped, the bone he held in his mouth fell into the river. Once he hit the water, he realized his mistake. The greedy dog lost both the real bone and the reflected one.
The incident made the dog regret his foolishness.
Moral of the story: This story teaches us not to be greedy. Greed can lead to losing what we already have and can cloud our judgment, causing us to make unwise decisions.
