Long ago, in a dense forest, there was a small pond. A frog lived there, searching for a friend. One day, a mouse emerged from under a tree near the pond. Seeing the frog looking sad, the mouse asked, “Friend, why do you look so sad? Can I share in your joys and sorrows?” The frog replied, “I have no friend with whom I can share my thoughts and feelings. I need someone to talk to about my happiness and sorrow.” Upon hearing this, the mouse cheerfully responded, “From today, consider me your friend. I will always be with you.”
As their friendship grew, they started talking to each other for hours. The frog would sometimes visit the mouse’s burrow under the tree, and other times, they would sit by the pond and chat.
The bond between the frog and the mouse deepened with each passing day.
The mouse and the frog shared their thoughts and feelings with each other regularly. One day, the frog thought, “I often visit the mouse’s burrow, but the mouse never comes to my pond. I should bring it here.”
The cunning frog said to the mouse, “Friend, our friendship has become very deep. Now we should do something so that whenever we think of each other, we are instantly reminded.” The mouse, unaware of the frog’s deceitful intentions, agreed, saying, “Yes, of course. But what should we do?” The sly frog quickly responded, “Tie your tail to my hind leg. Then, as soon as we miss each other, we can pull each other, and we will know.” The innocent mouse, trusting the frog completely, agreed to the plan. The frog tied the mouse’s tail to its hind leg.
Afterwards, the frog made a sudden leap into the pond. The jubilant frog was pleased that its plan had worked. However, the mouse, being a land-dwelling creature, struggled in the water. After a while of floundering, the mouse drowned.
Watching this from above, a hawk flying in the sky swooped down. Seeing the entangled frog and mouse, the hawk grabbed them both in its talons. The frog, initially confused about what was happening, soon realized that its cunning plan had backfired. The hawk soared into the sky, carrying the frog and the mouse.
The frog, now caught in the hawk’s clutches, prayed desperately to the gods for mercy, realizing the consequences of its actions. However, the hawk, along with the mouse and the frog, became the prey of another larger predator. The cunning frog, along with the innocent mouse, met a tragic end.
The story of the frog and the mouse teaches us that those who plan harm for others often end up harming themselves. One reaps what they sow, and it is essential to be cautious in forming alliances, considering the consequences of one’s actions.
