In a village, there lived a washerman with his donkey. Every morning, he would go to people’s homes with his donkey, collect dirty clothes, wash them, and return them. This was his daily routine, and it provided him with his livelihood.
The donkey had been working with the washerman for many years, and with time, it had grown old. The advancing age had weakened the donkey, making it unable to bear the weight of the clothes.
One afternoon, the washerman was taking his donkey to the washing area. The sun was intense, and the heat, combined with the heavy load of clothes, made it difficult for both the washerman and the donkey. As they were heading towards the washing area, the donkey’s leg stumbled, and it fell into a deep pit.
Seeing his donkey fall into the pit, the washerman became anxious and tried hard to pull it out. Despite being old and weak, the donkey exerted all its strength to come out of the pit, but both the washerman’s and the donkey’s efforts were in vain.
Witnessing the washerman’s struggle, some villagers came to help, but none could rescue the donkey from the pit.
The villagers suggested to the washerman that since the donkey was now old, it would be wise to bury it in the pit. Initially reluctant, the washerman agreed. With the help of shovels, the villagers began filling the pit with soil.
As the donkey realized what was happening, tears welled up in its eyes. It brayed and cried for a while, but after some time, it fell silent.
Suddenly, the washerman observed a peculiar movement. The donkey was doing something unexpected. As the villagers continued filling the pit, the donkey cleverly shook off the dirt from its body and stepped on the accumulated soil. It repeated this process, gradually elevating itself until it finally climbed out of the pit.
Witnessing the donkey’s clever maneuver, the washerman’s eyes filled with tears of joy. He hugged the donkey, appreciating its intelligence.
From this story of the washerman and his donkey, we learn that even in difficult situations, one can use their wit and intelligence to overcome challenges.
