Upon receiving the emperor’s order, Shahrazad commenced the tale of the love story between Abul Hasan and Shamsunnihar. The story unfolds as follows:
In the reign of Caliph Harun al-Rashid in Baghdad, there lived a wealthy and virtuous merchant. Not only was he physically attractive, but he was also a man of good character. The people of Baghdad held him in high esteem, and even the residents of the caliph’s palace respected him. All special maidservants of the palace purchased clothes and jewelry from his shop. Abul Hasan, a friend of the merchant, was the son of an affluent man named Baka. Baka was the last descendant of the Persian kings, and therefore, people referred to his son Abul Hasan as the prince.
Â
Abul Hasan was a handsome young man with a talent for singing and reciting poetry. Whenever he found the opportunity, he would start singing and playing music in his merchant friend’s shop, attracting a crowd of people to listen.
One day, as Prince Abul Hasan sat in his merchant friend’s shop, a woman entered with her maidservants. She was adorned in beautiful clothes and jewelry, radiating beauty. The merchant approached her with respect and led her inside the shop. All the while, Abul Hasan brought a small stool for her to sit on.
Observing all this, the woman understood that this place was safe for her. Therefore, she removed her veil. As soon as she unveiled, Prince Abul Hasan was left mesmerized by her beauty. She was stunning, and at the same time, the woman was captivated by the sight of the prince. Love blossomed between them at first sight.
Realizing that the place was secure, the woman invited Prince Abul Hasan to sit beside her. Abul Hasan accepted her invitation and sat beside her. However, he couldn’t take his eyes off her and kept gazing at her without blinking.
Observing the condition of the prince, she understood that he, too, had fallen in love with her. Afterward, the woman began shopping at the merchant’s store, engaging in conversation with him. During their discussions, she inquired about the young man’s name and background. The merchant responded, “This young man’s name is Abul Hasan. He is the son of a wealthy man named Baka, the last descendant of the Persian kings. Many girls from his family have been married into the caliph’s lineage.” Delighted by this information and knowing that he belonged to a royal family, the woman expressed her happiness. She said, “I find this young man to be of good character. With your assistance, I hope to meet him again. I will send one of my special maidservants to your place. At that time, bring this young man with you to my residence. If you come with him, I will be grateful.”
Hearing all this, the merchant realized that she, too, had developed feelings for the prince. She reassured the merchant that she would arrange for the prince and her to meet again. The woman conveyed her plan to the prince through the merchant, assuring him that she would send a special maidservant to fetch him.
Despite the merchant’s attempts to caution Prince Abul Hasan about the potential dangers, Abul Hasan remained captivated by the thought of Shamsunnihar.
In the meantime, a special maidservant arrived at the merchant’s shop. She discreetly informed the merchant that the mistress wanted to meet both him and Prince Abul Hasan. Following her instructions, the merchant immediately left with the maidservant. They were taken to a secluded corner of the grand palace, where Shamsunnihar resided in a spacious room.
The maidservant escorted them through a concealed door into the palace. Once inside, they were welcomed with great respect, adorned with fragrant perfumes, and directed to a beautiful sitting area. The surroundings were enchanting, and between two pillars, a door led to a well-maintained garden.
As they marveled at the beauty of the palace, several maidservants arrived and began preparing various musical instruments. The maidservants led them to a place in the garden where they could witness everything. Amidst this, they noticed an elevated platform, adorned with precious gems. Seeing it, the merchant quietly informed the prince, “Perhaps this grand platform is meant for Shamsunnihar to sit. Among all the caliph’s maidservants, only Shamsunnihar has the privilege to choose where she wants to sit. Not only that, whenever the caliph wishes to meet Shamsunnihar, she informs him of her arrival in advance.”
Despite these explanations, Prince Abul Hasan remained lost in thoughts about Shamsunnihar. During their observation, a special maidservant led them to a beautiful sitting area, where they could witness everything that transpired.
The merchant and the prince were engrossed in conversation when a maid arrived and ordered the commencement of music and singing. The prince was enjoying the music when the maids announced Shamsunnihar’s arrival. First, Shamsunnihar’s personal maid came, and then, guards with weapons escorted Shamsunnihar, welcoming her.
In a short while, Shamsunnihar arrived, adorned with jewelry made of diamonds and pearls from head to toe. After taking her seat, she instructed the maids to showcase their talents.
Following Shamsunnihar’s orders, the performers began singing songs. Their songs vividly expressed the emotions of the prince and Shamsunnihar. Subsequently, the prince took up the flute and played it for a long time. When he stopped playing, Shamsunnihar took the same flute and produced a captivating melody. Then, the prince took a musical instrument and played a mesmerizing tune. The atmosphere became so enchanting that Prince Abul Hasan and Shamsunnihar could no longer stay apart. After a while, they embraced each other, but their overwhelming joy caused them to faint suddenly.
The attending maids rushed to their aid, reviving them and ensuring their well-being. Regaining consciousness, Shamsunnihar inquired about the merchant’s whereabouts. The poor merchant, trembling with fear, was still sitting in his place. He couldn’t comprehend the consequences if the caliph were to find out about this. While the merchant was contemplating, Prince Abul Hasan approached him and said, “Shamsunnihar has remembered me.” When he went to Shamsunnihar, she expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am thankful to you for introducing me to the prince.” The merchant remarked, “I am amazed that, even after meeting each other, both of you seem so restless.” Shamsunnihar replied to the merchant, “This is the condition of those who truly love each other. The pain of separation torments them, and even in meeting, their hearts remain restless.”
After these events, Shamsunnihar instructed the maids to bring food for everyone. They all dined peacefully, and then Shamsunnihar took a glass of sherbet and drank it while singing. She then handed another glass to Prince Abul Hasan, who also sang a song while sipping the sherbet.
In the midst of this, a maid informed Shamsunnihar about the arrival of Masroor, the caliph’s servant. She said, “Masroor has come with a message from the caliph.” Both Prince Abul Hasan and the merchant became fearful upon hearing this news. Shamsunnihar reassured them and instructed the maid to keep Masroor engaged in conversation to hide the prince and the merchant. After that, Shamsunnihar concealed the prince and the merchant in a place where no one could see them. Then she granted permission for Masroor to enter.
Masroor arrived with his servants and bowed in respect to Shamsunnihar. He conveyed that the caliph wished to meet Shamsunnihar. Delighted, Shamsunnihar said, “I am fortunate that he wants to meet me. I am his servant, and he can come whenever he wishes. But, Masroor, I would appreciate it if you could delay his visit for a while, so that there is no haste in the caliph’s reception.” After granting permission for Masroor to fetch the caliph, Shamsunnihar turned to the concealed prince and merchant. She asked them to stay hidden until she gave them further instructions.
During this time, Shamsunnihar sent a message to the caliph, expressing her gratitude and acknowledging his desire to meet her.
Having said this, Shamsunnihar managed to send Masroor and his servants away. She then tearfully approached Prince Abul Hasan. The merchant, seeing tears in Shamsunnihar’s eyes, became anxious, fearing that their secret might have been exposed. Prince Abul Hasan was also distressed. In the meantime, one of Shamsunnihar’s maids informed them that “the caliph’s servant is on his way, and the caliph can arrive at any moment.”
With tears in her eyes, Shamsunnihar instructed the maid to take both of them to a house in a secluded corner of the garden. As soon as the opportunity arose, she planned to transport them discreetly by boat on the Dajla River. Saying this, she embraced Prince Abul Hasan and bid him farewell.
The maid led them to the secluded house, where they spent a considerable time looking around, hoping to find a way to leave. However, they found no escape route. Suddenly, they noticed that the caliph’s guards were entering the garden, and Masroor, the caliph’s chief servant, was accompanying them. This sight frightened them both. In reality, whenever the caliph visited a maid at night, strict security measures were taken.
Shamsunnihar welcomed the caliph’s entourage, bowing respectfully. She approached and bowed at the caliph’s feet in honor. The caliph embraced her, saying, “Do not bow at my feet; instead, sit beside me so that I can see you.” Shamsunnihar sat beside the caliph and gestured to a singing girl to start singing. She began singing a melancholic song of separation. The caliph thought that Shamsunnihar was expressing her sorrow through the song due to his absence, but in truth, the song narrated the story of the separation of Prince Abul Hasan and Shamsunnihar.
Listening to the song, Shamsunnihar felt dizzy and collapsed. The maids rushed to her aid. Meanwhile, Prince Abul Hasan, hearing the sad song, also fainted in distress, but the merchant managed to hold him. After some time, the maid informed the merchant about Shamsunnihar’s condition and asked them to leave.
The merchant consoled Prince Abul Hasan and administered a potion to revive him. Then, the maid quickly gave Shamsunnihar a potion for unconsciousness, bringing her back to her senses. After this, the maid guided both of them secretly outside through a concealed path towards the banks of the Dajla River.
Once there, the maid called out softly, and a person with a boat arrived. The maid helped both of them board the boat and bid them farewell. Prince Abul Hasan’s condition was still critical, and the merchant struggled to comfort him. He said, “We have to go far away. If any soldier sees us during this journey, they may consider us thieves, and our lives could be in jeopardy.”
Fearful and invoking God’s name, both of them reached a safe place. However, Prince Abul Hasan’s mental state was still not well, and he lacked the strength to walk. Seeing his condition, the merchant became anxious. In the midst of this, he suddenly remembered that he had a friend nearby. He took Prince Abul Hasan to his friend’s place. The friend asked them to sit down and inquired about how they came in such a condition. The merchant, concealing the real reason, said, “I had some money owed by a man. When I learned that he was fleeing the city, I followed him to this point. The person accompanying me knows about the fugitive. He helped me in chasing him, but suddenly he fell ill on the way, and the runaway managed to escape successfully.”
The merchant’s friend provided a place for both of them to stay overnight and considered calling a physician for Prince Shahzade’s care. However, the merchant assured him, saying, “Don’t worry; he will rest peacefully tonight and can go home in the morning.” Hearing this, the friend instructed them to sleep and left for his own home. Shahzade’s condition, due to his illness, quickly led him to sleep, but after a short while, he had a dream. In the dream, he saw Shamsunnihar faint and fall at the feet of the caliph. Suddenly waking up, he started crying.
As the night passed, and morning arrived, the merchant returned to find Shahzade’s house and saw that he was very sick. Several relatives and a physician were present. They informed the merchant that the physician had made efforts, but no medicine seemed to have any effect on Shahzade. At that moment, Shahzade opened his eyes, and upon seeing the merchant, a smile appeared on his face. He hoped that the merchant had brought news about Shamsunnihar.
Shahzade asked everyone to leave, and once alone, he spoke to the merchant, saying, “Friend, please tell me about Shamsunnihar because I am worried about her. My relatives and friends are distressed after seeing my condition. I can’t reveal the real reason for my condition, but seeing you gives me hope. Do you have any news about Shamsunnihar?”
The merchant informed Shahzade that Shamsunnihar’s maid was still missing, and Shahzade began to cry upon hearing this. The merchant comforted him, assuring that sooner or later, Shamsunnihar’s maid would come and bring some good news. After saying this, the merchant returned home.
When he arrived, he found Shamsunnihar’s maid waiting for him. She informed the merchant about Shamsunnihar’s situation. She mentioned that upon returning to the palace without them, Shamsunnihar had fainted. The caliph, confused about her sudden loss of consciousness, inquired from all the maids, but they hid the real reason. Shamsunnihar, upon regaining consciousness in the caliph’s presence, lied, saying that she fainted out of joy upon the caliph’s return.
Hearing this explanation, the caliph felt relieved and advised Shamsunnihar to rest. The maid continued her narration, explaining that Shamsunnihar spent the night crying and mentioning Shahzade’s name. When her condition slightly improved after two days, she instructed the maid to go and get news about Shahzade. The merchant, after hearing the whole story, reassured the maid and asked her to stay calm.
A few days later, the merchant visited Shahzade again and found him recovering. Eventually, Shahzade’s relatives came and took him home. Before leaving, Shahzade requested the merchant to keep him informed about Shamsunnihar. The merchant promised to share any news and reminded Shahzade not to disclose anything in front of the caliph that could cause trouble for them all.
After the maid left, the merchant went to Prince Shahzade’s house. He informed Shahzade about the news of Shamsunnihar’s maid coming and shared all the details mentioned by her. Shahzade insisted that the merchant stay overnight at his place. The next morning, after the merchant returned to his home, shortly thereafter, Shamsunnihar’s maid arrived and provided information about the letter sent by Shamsunnihar.
Upon hearing this, the merchant went to Shahzade’s house and relayed the information from the letter. Shahzade, moved by the content of the letter, read it with his own eyes. In the letter, Shamsunnihar expressed the pain of their separation. In response, Shahzade wrote a letter and handed it to the maid.
Observing all this, the merchant started contemplating that if Shamsunnihar’s maid continued to visit his house daily, and Shahzade had to go to her every day, it could lead to complications. Although Shahzade and Shamsunnihar were deeply in love, revealing their relationship to the caliph might jeopardize everything. Fearing the consequences, the merchant decided to leave the city and settle elsewhere.
One day, as the merchant was immersed in his thoughts at his shop, a jeweler friend came to meet him. The jeweler, having noticed the frequent visits of Shamsunnihar’s maid to the merchant’s place and their trips to Shahzade’s house, sensed that something was amiss. Concerned for the merchant, the jeweler inquired about the reason behind his worries. The merchant hesitated but eventually confessed, revealing the entire situation and his fear for Shahzade and his family.
Upon hearing the merchant’s story, the jeweler understood the gravity of the situation. Realizing that there was no point in hiding anything, the merchant revealed all the details, including Shahzade’s love affair with Shamsunnihar. Filled with compassion for Shahzade, the jeweler decided to help him. He visited Shahzade and, after gaining his trust, shared the merchant’s concerns.
Shahzade was astonished to learn that the merchant had left the city. He immediately ordered his servant to find out more details about the merchant’s departure. When the servant returned, he confirmed that the merchant had indeed left Baghdad and had no plans to return. Shahzade, now alarmed, instructed his servant to investigate further and find out the reason behind the merchant’s sudden departure.
The servant, after some inquiries, discovered that the merchant had confided in a jeweler about Shahzade’s love affair with Shamsunnihar. This revelation shocked Shahzade, and he decided to meet the jeweler to understand the full story. When Shahzade met the jeweler, he learned about the merchant’s fears and concerns for him and his family.
Understanding the gravity of the situation, Shahzade decided to confront the reality of his relationship with Shamsunnihar. He called his servant and ordered him to go to Shamsunnihar’s maid, who was still residing in the city, and bring her to him. A few days later, the maid arrived at Shahzade’s house, and Shahzade, with a heavy heart, asked her about Shamsunnihar’s condition.
To Shahzade’s surprise, the maid revealed that Shamsunnihar was aware of the entire situation. She explained that Shamsunnihar had sent her to convey the message that she understood the complications and was willing to let Shahzade go for the sake of his well-being. Shamsunnihar’s selfless decision left Shahzade in awe of her love and sacrifice.
Deeply moved, Shahzade wrote a heartfelt letter to Shamsunnihar, expressing his gratitude and admiration for her noble gesture. He thanked her for understanding the complexities of their situation and assured her that he would always cherish her in his heart. Shahzade decided to focus on his responsibilities and live a life of honor and integrity.
As time passed, Shahzade’s respect and admiration for Shamsunnihar grew even more. Though they were separated physically, their love and understanding for each other remained strong. Shahzade continued to uphold the values of righteousness and commitment, knowing that Shamsunnihar had placed his well-being above her own desires.
The story serves as a testament to the power of selfless love and sacrifice, highlighting the importance of understanding and respecting the complexities of relationships.
Now, once again, Johari came to sit with Shahzade and said, ‘It seems you have a deep connection with the Khalifa’s palace.’ Shahzade, upon hearing this, became agitated and said, ‘Do you know who the woman was who came?’ Johari replied, ‘I know this servant and her mistress both very well. She is Shamsunnihar’s maid, and Shamsunnihar is the Khalifa’s favorite. She often comes to my shop to buy jewelry. I have seen her coming and going to the merchant’s place several times.’
Shahzade, frightened, asked, ‘Tell me the truth. Do you know the reason why this maid came here?’ Johari revealed all the details of his conversation with the merchant and said, ‘After the merchant left, I felt compassion for your situation, and that’s why I came here to help you. You can trust me.’
Shahzade trusted his words and poured out his heart to Johari. Along with sharing his feelings, Shahzade said, ‘The servant of Shamsunnihar saw her here. She thinks that you advised the merchant to leave the city. Now, I suspect that the servant must have told this to Shamsunnihar as well.’ After hearing all this, Johari assured Shahzade that he did not advise the merchant to leave the city. He only tried to save his dignity but did not stop him from going to Basra. Shahzade expressed his trust in Johari but doubted the loyalty of Shamsunnihar’s maid.
After a long conversation, Johari took leave. Shahzade had instructed the servant to write a letter to the merchant and bring it back. The servant informed Shamsunnihar about everything she had heard. Shamsunnihar expressed her grief in a long letter to Shahzade.
As the servant was on her way to deliver the letter, she tripped and dropped it. After a short distance, she realized her mistake and decided to go back. When she reached the spot, she saw Johari reading the letter. She asked Johari to return the letter, but he ignored her. Taking the letter, he went to his home, and the servant followed him. Johari indicated the servant to sit and explained that he knows the content of the letter. He asked her, ‘Tell me the truth. Did you tell Shahzade that I influenced the merchant to leave the city?’ The servant, in fear, admitted that she had said such things. Johari said, ‘I want to help the merchant now instead of the businessman. Trust me, I will assist him even if it puts my life at risk.’ He also shared all the information with Shamsunnihar.
After a while, Johari bid farewell to Shahzade. Meanwhile, the servant went to Shahzade, taking Shamsunnihar’s letter. She shared all the incidents with him. Shahzade, troubled, said, ‘I wanted you to know the truth. Now Shamsunnihar wants to meet you in the palace. She instructed you to come there.’ Hearing this, Johari became uneasy and said, ‘Ibn Tahir, the merchant, was known to everyone in the palace. He used to enter without any hindrance. But no one knows me. I cannot go to the palace without being recognized.’ The servant tried to convince him, but Johari was not ready to go to the palace. The servant informed Shamsunnihar about Johari’s reluctance. Shamsunnihar told the servant to go to Johari’s house and inform him that she would meet him at Johari’s place.
After that, she, along with her servant, went to Johari’s house, where Johari welcomed her with great respect. As soon as Shamsunnihar removed her veil, Johari couldn’t help but stare at her beauty. Seeing her beauty, Johari understood that if Shahzade is in love with her, it’s not surprising. Shamsunnihar and Johari exchanged pleasantries. After a delightful conversation, Shamsunnihar thanked Johari and, revealing her feelings, left the place.
Once Shamsunnihar left, Johari went to Shahzade and shared all the details. Shahzade, upon seeing Johari, began to request him to arrange a meeting with Shamsunnihar. Johari explained that it wouldn’t be appropriate to meet in the royal palace or Johari’s house. Therefore, he would rent a beautiful building where Shamsunnihar and Shahzade could meet without any fear. Shahzade was overjoyed after hearing this.
Johari shared all the information with Shamsunnihar’s maid and asked her to assist in helping both of them. The maid agreed to help, and along with Johari, went to select a large mansion. Afterward, she returned to the palace. However, after some time, she came back to Johari’s house and handed him a bag of gold coins. She mentioned that it was a gift from her mistress so that Johari could decorate the mansion. After organizing everything, Johari went to pick up Shahzade, who was ready and excited. Johari, along with Shahzade, took him through deserted streets to the grand mansion.
Shahzade was delighted upon seeing the grand mansion and its decorations. The day turned into night, and Shamsunnihar, accompanied by her special maid and other servants, arrived at the mansion. When Shahzade and Shamsunnihar saw each other, their happiness knew no bounds. Tears of joy welled up in their eyes, and they continued gazing at each other. Johari advised them to handle the situation calmly.
Afterward, everyone had dinner, and all the people gathered in the sitting area. Meanwhile, Shamsunnihar asked if there was a flute available. Johari had already made arrangements. He brought a flute, and Shamsunnihar played a beautiful tune, expressing the pain of their love and separation. Following her, Shahzade also played a sweet melody on the same flute in response.
During this, they heard noise from outside the mansion. Johari’s servant rushed in, informing that many people were gathering at the door, attempting to break in. He explained that when he asked them who they were and what they wanted, they began to beat him. He managed to close and lock the door before coming inside. Upon hearing this, Johari went to the door himself. As soon as he opened it, he saw about a hundred people standing with swords in their hands. Johari assumed they were the Khalifa’s soldiers. Seizing the opportunity, Johari jumped over the neighboring wall into his neighbor’s house, who already knew him. He allowed Johari to hide in his house.
As the mob tried to force their way in, Johari was safely hidden in the neighbor’s house.
Slowly, evening approached, and as they walked, Johari became tired. Along with fatigue, his anxiety increased. Fearful Johari was losing the courage to ask the stranger anything. After a while, both reached the banks of the Dajla River. Sitting on a boat, they crossed the river, reaching the other side. Once they crossed the river, they continued walking through the streets.
As they walked, they reached in front of a house, and upon reaching there, the man clapped his hands. Hearing the clapping sound, the door of the house opened, and both entered. As soon as Johari entered the house, he saw many people sitting there. They welcomed Johari, and respectfully asked him to sit with them. After a while, their master arrived. After that, they asked Johari if he had seen them before. Johari said, “No, I have never seen you people before, nor have I crossed this river before.” After this, suddenly, they told Johari that they knew everything about what happened with him the previous night. Johari was surprised at how they knew all this. Then they said that they came to know all these things from that woman and man. However, they also wanted to know everything from Johari. Understanding this, Johari took time to realize that these people might be the same dacoits.
After hearing everything, Johari expressed his gratitude to the dacoits. Johari also narrated the entire love story of Prince Abul Hasan and Shamsunnihar. Hearing all this, the dacoits were astonished and said, “Is this person the son of King Baka of Persia, Abul Hasan, and the woman Shamsunnihar, the beloved of the Caliph?” Johari answered their questions in the affirmative. After learning all this, the dacoits went to Abul Hasan and Shamsunnihar and apologized.
After that, the dacoits promised to take them safely across the river and also promised to help them hide their identity. The three of them swore not to reveal anything about the dacoits to anyone. Then one dacoit left them across the river. However, as soon as they reached the shore, the soldiers saw them. The same dacoit took his boat and fled, but the three were caught by the soldiers and began to interrogate them.
Johari lied, saying that the dacoits had attacked his house last night and, along with them, took both of them across the river. The soldiers, unaware of the dacoits’ intentions, believed his story. Then the chief of the soldiers took Johari aside and had a conversation. After that, the chief took Johari and Shamsunnihar on a separate boat and ordered to take them home. At the same time, the other two soldiers took their belongings on another boat and sent them to Shahzade’s house.
The soldiers accompanied them, but they did not listen to their chief and took the boat to the prison. The chief officer of the prison scolded them well, and the other two soldiers were ordered to take them with their belongings to Shahzade’s house.
After reaching home, they were so exhausted that they couldn’t even move. After a while, Shahzade ordered his servants to take Johari to his house. As Johari reached his house, his family, expressing concern, began questioning him about where he had been. He evaded their questions, tired and worn out, and went to his room, claiming fatigue.
A few days later, Johari considered going to a friend’s house to lighten his mood. While going to his friend’s house, he encountered the same servant again. Frightened, Johari signaled the servant to follow him. They reached a deserted mosque, where the servant asked Johari how he had escaped from the dacoits. Johari, inquired about her well-being first. The servant said that when the dacoits came to her house, they thought they were soldiers of the Caliph. To save their lives, they climbed onto the roof and entered the house of a kind person. He sheltered them for the night. In the morning, they left for their homes. On reaching the palace, they lied that the mistress had stayed at her friend’s house.
After hearing this, Johari thanked the servant. He accepted the money from her, used it to replace his stolen belongings, and started building a big and beautiful house with the remaining funds.
One day, he visited Shahzade’s house to inquire about his well-being. Shahzade’s servants informed him that since his arrival, Shahzade had been lying on his bed. Johari went to Shahzade and shared the news of the servant. Shahzade thanked Johari after hearing everything.
Upon meeting Shahzade, Johari found the same servant who, with tears in her eyes, came to his house. She informed him that she and Shahzade were in danger, and they should leave the city immediately. The servant revealed that another servant had possibly informed the Caliph about everything. Consequently, the Caliph sent soldiers, and Shamsunnihar was captured.
Hearing this, Johari was shocked. He informed Shahzade about everything and suggested leaving the city. Shahzade, without delay, took horses, some money, and a few servants, and both of them left the city.
One afternoon, as they were resting under a tree, dacoits attacked them. The dacoits assaulted them, beat up their servants, and looted all their belongings.
After the attack by the dacoits, both of them reached a mosque. In the morning, a man came to offer prayers and, seeing them, felt compassion. Johari narrated the incident of the dacoit attack to the man. Hearing this, the man insisted on accommodating them in his house, but Johari refused. The man then brought food for them. Shahzade’s condition was deteriorating, and he couldn’t eat anything. In his final moments, Shahzade said to Johari, “I cannot survive now. I cannot bear the pain of being separated from Shamsunnihar anymore. My last wish is for you to keep my body with this kind man, go to Baghdad, inform my mother about my death, and request her to bury me.”
After saying this, Shahzade gave up his life. Johari wept for a long time in sorrow for Abu’l’s death. Later, he placed the body with the man and set out towards Baghdad. On reaching Baghdad, he informed Shahzade’s mother about his death. Shahzade’s mother, crying, went with the servants to the man to take Shahzade’s body.
At the same time, Johari was mourning Shahzade’s death when the same servant of Shamsunnihar arrived. Johari informed her about Shahzade’s death. Upon hearing this, the servant tearfully said that Shamsunnihar was no longer in this world. The Caliph had made her a captive, but seeing the love between the two, his heart melted, and he set Shamsunnihar free. However, that evening, Shamsunnihar’s health deteriorated, and she gave up her life.
Her body was buried in a grand tomb within the palace. Now, she wished that Shahzade’s body should also be buried next to her grave, so that even in death, the two lovers could stay together. She mentioned that the Caliph had given her permission to oversee Shahzade’s tomb, so there would be no hindrance in building Shahzade’s grave next to hers.
When Shahzade’s body arrived, Johari sought permission from his mother and had the body buried beside his beloved. Since then, people from distant lands come and pray at their graves.
While Johari was mourning Shahzade’s death, the same servant girl came to his house, expressing her condolences. Johari informed her about Shahzade’s demise. She mournfully stated that Shamsunnihar was no longer in this world. Hearing this, Johari cried and continued his mourning for days.
The sister, Dunyazad, praised the beautiful story and asked if Shahrazad had more stories. Shahrazad replied that if she was not given the death penalty, she would continue with the story of Shahzada Kamruzjama the next day. The king spared Shahrazad’s life again, and the next morning, she began the next tale.
