Jataka Tales-Mowgli Story

Jataka Tales Mowgli Story

Years ago, during the summer season, one day all the animals were resting in the jungle. After resting well, as evening approached, a pack of wolves set out for hunting. As they went a little further into the woods, they heard the cry of a baby from the bushes.

When the wolf went to investigate, he found a baby lying on the ground without any clothes. Surprised, the wolf took the baby with him to his pack. Just then, the tiger Shere Khan, who lived in the jungle, got angry because the wolves had brought the baby from the human settlement to eat.

The wolf raised the baby just like his own family. In his family, there were some wolf cubs and their mother Raksha. Raksha named the baby Mowgli. Mowgli found a family with the wolves and started living with them as their brother.

Daru, one of the wolves, had informed his wife Raksha to protect the baby from Shere Khan as he wanted to eat the baby. Raksha took this responsibility seriously and never let her children and Mowgli out of her sight.

Over time, Mowgli made many friends among the animals living in the jungle. Meanwhile, Shere Khan kept a close eye on Mowgli from a distance, waiting for the right time to hunt him.

The leader of the wolf pack, a wise wolf, along with Baloo, a bear, and Bagheera, a panther, discussed Mowgli’s future. They agreed that Mowgli should be raised like a wolf and taught the laws of the jungle. They also promised to protect him.

As time passed, Mowgli grew older and learned the ways of the jungle from Baloo and Bagheera. He learned the language of many animals and mastered skills like climbing trees, swimming in the river, and hunting. Bagheera also taught Mowgli how to avoid traps and escape from them.

One day, a young wolf from the group got caught in a trap set by the hunters. Shere Khan wanted to eat the trapped wolf, but Mowgli arrived just in time to save him. Seeing this, Shere Khan got very angry. Later, Shere Khan tried to capture Mowgli, but he couldn’t.

In his anger, Shere Khan decided to seek the help of the monkeys who lived in another part of the jungle. The monkeys were known to be dangerous. The monkey king agreed to help Shere Khan in capturing Mowgli.

The monkey king ordered his monkeys to capture Mowgli. After keeping an eye on Mowgli for a few days, they finally captured him and took him to a mountain surrounded by a dense forest. Mowgli found himself in trouble again.

Mowgli remembered that Baloo and Bagheera would know about his whereabouts. Just then, he saw an eagle flying in the sky. Mowgli called out to the eagle for help and asked him to inform Baloo and Bagheera that he was captured by the monkeys. The eagle quickly flew to Baloo and Bagheera to deliver the message.

When Baloo and Bagheera heard about Mowgli’s capture, they went to seek help from Kaa, a python. At first, Kaa refused to help them, but when he heard about Mowgli, he agreed. They all set out to rescue Mowgli.

After reaching the monkey’s territory, they saw that there were hundreds of monkeys. After a while, Kaa said it was time to rescue Mowgli. They attacked the monkeys, and in the chaos, Baloo got injured. Seeing this, Kaa came to their rescue and scared the monkeys away. Then, they broke open the door and freed Mowgli.

After escaping from the monkeys, the monkeys attacked Bagheera, but Mowgli remembered that monkeys were afraid of water. He told Bagheera to jump into the water, and the monkeys ran away from the riverbank.

After some time, Mowgli escaped from the monkeys and reached a human settlement. There he met a woman named Messua, whose son was also taken by a tiger years ago. Mowgli started living in the village with her. The villagers allowed Mowgli to stay and took care of the animals.

Some time later, Mowgli’s wolf brother found him in the village. He told Mowgli that Shere Khan was preparing to kill him. Mowgli knew that Shere Khan would not let him go easily, so he made a plan to end him. He took the help of his wolf siblings in this plan.

In the plan, Mowgli brought Shere Khan to a valley and left him there with a herd of buffaloes. Shere Khan went after the buffaloes and was trampled to death. Then, Mowgli returned to the village and lived happily with the villagers.

Lessons from the story: Keeping courage makes every difficulty go away. Every human should present themselves with love among animals. In time of need, they can help as friends.
